Case Study #1: The Webinar Wonder

I always tell every client to not expect much revenue improvement in the first month, but “Jim” (not his real name) was an exception.

We had already doubled his revenue by end of month 1 and, coming up on the end of month 2, we were looking at a massive 13x ROI, a 1300% return in just under 60 days. Crazy results.

That’s when I got the call. (Right before his next invoice was due, by the way.) 

After 20+ years of consulting, I can usually tell from the tone what is about to happen, and I heard it in his voice.

“Lee, I just don’t see how I can continue at this rate. It’s just not enough ROI for me”, he boldly declared.

“Jim”, I said, “do you realize we doubled your money last month and this month as we’re just getting things really going we got a 1300% ROI?”

He did. But he said it wasn’t enough. Even though we were on track to crush month 3 with an estimated 25x ROI (or more) if things continued.

“Lee, what you don’t see is this offer may be doing good but the rest of my business is in the tank. I need to get that working if I hope to keep the other stuff going…” and he went on for about 20 more minutes telling me all the reasons why he needed to focus on what WASN’T working instead of what WAS clearly working.

“OK Jim, sounds like you know what you need to do. I truly wish you the best.”

I didn’t even bother pleading my case that, with this offer killing it, he could focus more on it and not the other offers that weren’t working.

Again, two decades of experience told me what I needed to know…

We had exceeded his success thermostat settings. He clearly had already made up his mind and wasn’t willing to work on the mindset side to blast through this new obstacle and embrace this newfound success.

So I let him go.

Look, I don’t know what private struggles Jim had that forced him to make the decision to shut down a business that was taking off like a rocket and I don’t judge him for his choice.

What I do know is this…

Within 45 days after he stopped doing what was working he was struggling more than before we worked together. He shut down the offer we had built together and went back to doing the webinars that simply weren’t working anymore.

Just over 3 months later he shut everything down and is now working for someone else.
